We’ve made it to Mumbai; the state of Maharashtra. it’s surprisingly beautiful, if you don’t come here with any expectations. We did expect it to be almost a copy of Delhi, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s more built-up than Delhi and many of the buildings are historical and impressive. There are some clean streets and they all have a good road surface, plus, there are no cows meandering down the nicely paved streets. In a few areas, it does seem like they are trying to clean things up, but in other areas, it definitely reminded us of Delhi.
We explored and walked along the beach, Chowpatty beach is one the western edge of the city along the Arabian Sea. The water had a not so pleasant color, and appeared toxic. We saw Indians bathing in the water, we don’t recommend it. We strolled through old colonial neighborhoods, we snuck across yards of mansions on the hillside, wandered through shabby-town under residential skyscrapers and designer boutiques. The trees here are elegant and old, which makes the city feel cooler and gives it a more dignified look.
We walked until our legs were turning into jelly, so we took a tuk-tuk back to our hotel near the airport. This too was a nicer accommodation than we had in Delhi, where in Delhi we could hear yelling and honking from the streets below. After a brief rest and a quick bite to eat at the hotels restaurant, we went back to the harbor, the day was somewhat smoggy, but not as much as Delhi. We then again headed back to our hotel to get an early nights sleep, because early tomorrow morning we’ll catch the train to Goa, where we here it’s nothing like Delhi or Mumbai, it’s more of a party resort State that accommodates tourist who have desires to party all day and night.
