Best Golfing in Florida

under Travel

I’m a somewhat decent golfer, well okay, I’m less than decent, but to play a beautiful course makes all the difference in the world, well at least makes you feel like you golfed better. I was staying at one of the better Florida luxury hotels in Jacksonville, when I read about the Sawgrass Gold Course. It’s touted as the Players Course. It’s where the pros play for those multi-million dollar tournaments every year and where I only bet $20 for who has the lowest score by the 18th hole.

I took the shuttle bus to the club house, and the staff there treated me like I was royalty, which I got used to immediately. All the necessities are set-up, my practice round, my caddie, even the clubs, plus they  estimated how I’ll do that day. Let me just say this up-front, I lost track of my score after the 3rd hole. My golfing partner, who I didn’t know, but ended up having a great time with, decided to combine our scores to compete with the other two gals we were golfing with. There were several holes that we double digit the score and we looked as if we were doing well, for a 500 plus yard drive to the hole.

Need I mention that Sawgrass is a challenging course, which made me appreciate that much more the pros that can hit the ball and make anything in less than 9 shots! By the time we made it to the 17th hole, after receiving crap talk from the other gals, and the massive backlog of people drooling over the hole, that’s when we realized what we where facing. The 17th hole is probably a breeze for Tiger Woods, but an extreme challenge for the rest of us. The other women in our group, took pictures from all angles of the hole, it was like they just found a pair of new designer shoes displayed at Saks. The hole is only 100 yard from the pin, but it’s surrounded by 95% water.

After we all lost many expensive golf balls on the drive, only one of us, out of four, made it on to the green. We were thankful that the hole was almost dead center in the green, if it wasn’t we all would have shot double digits on a par-3.

We lost our 20 bucks, but it was the best 20 bucks I had ever lost, I really recommend, if you’re in Jacksonville, and even if you don’t golf, come out to Sawgrass and you’ll have a great time.
